Mi Casita, the home that Aldo Leopold built while supervisor of the Carson National Forest in Tres Piedras, New Mexico, has been fully restored and is now hosting The Aldo & Estella Leopold Writers & Artists Residency Program. The program is a cooperative project of the Aldo Leopold Foundation, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Rocky Mountain Land Library. This historic site, with views across the valley of the upper Rio Grande to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, provides distinguished and emerging writers and artists the opportunity to contemplate the meaning of a land ethic for our time.
One beneficial aspect of the The Aldo & Estella Leopold Residency is the close proximity of Tres Piedras to Taos. Taos’ rich history in both the visual arts and literature should hopefully help to attract environmentally-inclined writers to the Aldo & Estella Leopold Residency.
